Why Yogurt Is Good For The Treatment Of Dry Skin

Home remedies such as yogurt can be very helpful for treating dry skin.

Yogurt is good for you in many ways. It helps to keep the digestive system working properly, and it is high in protein and calcium, which means it’s excellent for strong bones and teeth, and it helps the body to repair and renew cells. Yogurt is also very good for natural skin care for dry skin.

High in protein

Every cell in the body requires protein for growth and repair, and yogurt is packed with protein. Skin cells are perpetually renewing themselves, which means the skin requires a constant supply of protein for it to look healthy. To obtain the maximum amount of protein for your skin, you need to eat regular servings of yogurt. Greek yogurt is best, so if you’re watching your weight, you’ll need to control portion size.

A good source of Vitamin A

Vitamin A is very important for skin care, because it helps to fight infections and keeps the skin healthy. Yogurt is a very good source of vitamin A, which means it can help skin from both the inside and the outside. Apply a yogurt mask to the complexion and leave for 20 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Your skin will be soft, smooth and glowing. This remedy works better if you use natural yogurt made with whole milk, so don’t go for the low fat option. You’re not going to be eating it, and some low fat yogurts can in fact dry out the skin when applied topically.

High in lactic acid

Yogurt is rich in lactic acid, which softens the skin, helps to minimise wrinkles and cleanses the pores. Lactic acid also helps to promote collagen production, which makes the skin look plumped up and wrinkle-free. Lactic acid happens to be a natural exfoliant,  which means it can help to remove dead skin cells which can clog the pores and prevent moisture reaching the skin cells.

For an effective exfoliant  which will remove dead skin cells and allow moisturisers to penetrate more deeply, mix natural yogurt with a little orange peel which has been dried in the sun and ground to a powder. Apply to the face and neck, leave it for 15 minutes, then rinse off. Your skin will feel soft and really healthy.

Yogurt is nature’s own beauty treatment – it has antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-aging characteristics and it’s inexpensive.  In fact, it’s as good as face cream when it comes to treating dry skin naturally. Maybe you should add yogurt to your skin care shopping list.
