Free Report Reveals Why Petroleum And Paraffin Products Should Not Appear In Skin Creams

Mineral oilMany of the by products of the refining process that produces the petrol – or gas – that fuels our cars are used in skin care products and cosmetics. These by products are called petrochemicals, and many people today are beginning to question why it’s necessary to use paraffin and petroleum when there are safer, more sustainable and above all natural products which can perform the same functions with no risk to health.

Paraffin is literally the bottom of the barrel when it comes to by products of crude oil – it starts out as a black sludge. It’s then processed using full strength bleach. If you’re unsure what that means, it’s about 10 times the maximum you’d use in laundry and household cleaning. The ‘cleaned up’ product is then used in shampoos, anti aging products, foundations, eye liners and lipsticks, among other things.

Whether it’s used as an oil or a wax, paraffin picks up known carcinogenic – cancer causing – chemicals and substances as a result of the refining process. In studies, it’s been linked to some forms of renal cancer.

Petroleum based products can clog the skin and also interfere with natural hormonal processes, as well as causing skin complaints such as eczema. Part of this problem may be the barrier effect that petroleum products create. While manufacturers promote this feature as ‘locking in moisture,’ it also locks out natural moisture and oxygen from the atmosphere, and locks in dirt and waste products that would otherwise be naturally eliminated from the body in perspiration.

Another problem with petroleum products is that they’re basically a one trick pony. Unlike plant based oils, petrochemical oils contain none of the important vitamins and antioxidants you need for skin health. All they do is moisturise, and they are not especially good at that. These products have been known to over moisturise – yes, it is possible – and leave unsightly fluid bumps on the complexion.

Some studies show that car mechanics and other workers who are regularly exposed to petroleum by products have a higher than average risk of skin cancer, and the substances have also been linked to issues with the nervous system and the immune system. The main culprit is 1,4-dioxane – a known carcinogenic that often contaminates petroleum products during processing.

The thing is, there are natural emollients such as shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and jojoba oil, and these compounds contain other nutrients for skin health. There really is no need to use skin care products containing petroleum or paraffin. Maybe it’s time to make the switch to totally natural skin care. Skin care companies such as Naturally Mediterranean use only the best natural ingredients in their products. Petroleum and paraffin has no place in natural skin care, so you won’t find it in Naturally Mediterranean’s range.
